The Big Joy of Little Things - Day 20

  Gratitude: Pass it on!

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough." — Melodie Beatty

Maybe Melodie's powerful insight above is another important reason why daily gratitude works so well. It helps us look at what we have instead of what we don't have. It anchors us to the here and now.

So far, much of this has been carried out in a quiet, internal way. As we learned this practice, It required thought and self-reflection. But today, as we near the end of this series, it's time to take this beyond the borders of our own experiences, hearts and minds, and carry it out into a world that desperately needs it.

What if you and I, and everyone else who meets us here, reaches out to thank one or two people to whom we are grateful? Maybe that person did something meaningful for you ten years ago or two weeks ago. The timeline doesn't matter, but the gratitude does.

Reach deep inside so this becomes more than a simple thank you; allow it to become an expression of deepest appreciation. Research tells us that your benefactor will likely be inspired to pass it on. And maybe... just maybe.... this chain of gratitude will travel far and wide, making the world a better place in the process. After all, if we don't change the world, who will?

Peace, love and much gratitude, Underdogs!

On Day 20 of The Big Joy of Little Things, I am thankful to many people, especially....

70. My father, who was an incredible example of optimism and determination, who loved people and laughter and would help anyone. He taught me more than I can list here and though he is gone now, he teaches me still.

71. My mom, who planted seeds of faith in my heart and who always had an open door policy, welcoming friends and family in. Her spirit of hospitality made their home a wonderful place to be. Oh, and she was also a world class bargain hunter and passed her cost cutting tips on to me.

72. My husband and sons who own my heart, which can be dangerous sometimes, but on most days my crew makes bad days good and good days great. And every day, I love them more.

73. Dear friends who take my hand, walk this journey by my side, and whisper sage (and often funny) words in my ear. You listen to me ramble and you get my girl perspective.  I don't know what I would do without you. Honestly. I'm panicking just thinking about it.
